Let’s dive into this week’s newsletter…

Employee Engagement
Leadership that Boosts Employee Engagement

Cheesy stock pic - you’re welcome

In the night I hear em talk - the coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road they lost their soul
The disengaged so heartless…

Does a disengaged employee really impact your business?
Let’s look…

Businesses with highly engaged employees boast:

  • 41% LOWER Absenteeism

  • 24% LOWER Turnover

  • 17% HIGHER Productivity

  • 70% FEWER Employee  Safety Incidents

  • 20% HIGHER Sales

  • 41% FEWER Quality Incidents

Here’s what the avg company looks like as far as engagement

See those 19% of actively disengaged employees…
Their mentality: You can’t tell me nothin’
They are the one’s that keep you up at night, limit your vacation time, and stress you out.

A disengaged employee is sucking the profit out of your biz in productivity cost and turnover.

Productivity Cost

The avg disengaged employee costs a business 1/3 payroll $ in productivity
See the math above and use numbers relevant to your business.

Turnover Cost

That revolving door brings HIGH cost.
Use this calculator above to look at what turnover is costing your business

How Do You Boost Engagement?

  1. Leadership Style

Which leadership style describes you best?
What determines your leadership style?
(I’ll get back to that in a min)
We all gravitate to one or two leadership styles by default
If you want to boost engagement then you need to practice all of the styles

Your leadership style must depend on the situation.

It’s like golf🏌️
Each club is used for a different situation
In leadership the situation should determine which style you use.
When you are a flexible leader - you will serve your team and boost their engagement.

🛑 Letting emotions dictate your leadership style
âś… Letting the situation determine your leadership style

  1. Build Team Chemistry

Google’s Project Aristotle asked: What makes the most engaged and high-performing teams at Google so effective?
The answer: Psychological Safety
Team members feel safe to take risks, be vulnerable, and share opinions in front of each other.

How do you build a culture where people feel safe?
It’s about hormones…yes you read that right
Dopamine: Goal setting, accountability, reward
Endorphines: Motivation, inspiration, and endurance
Oxytocin: the cuddle hormone - happy hour, retreats, bonding
Serotonin: recognition, difference making, etc.

Highly engaged teams are led by leaders who create the right mix of these hormones on their team.

What are you doing to create that mix in your business?

đź’ Marketing
Imma let you finish, but Ye is the greatest marketing king of all time…

Kanye West/Yeezy/Ye
Love him? Loathe him?
I am a huge fan of his work (not him as a person per se)

Watch this INCREDIBLE documentary to learn more about his story.

My head was on a swivel when his low-production 30 sec spot aired during the Super Bowl. What did I just see? Was the TV hacked?

Last Monday Kanye posted stats on social media:
Super Bowl Spot = $7M
Commercial Cost = $0
Orders = 284,357
Yeezy.com Sales = $19.3M

My brain started diving into this.
What marketing tips can we take away from Ye…

Be different

I am fully aware that Kanye is on a whole different level with global recognition. However, this commercial was DIFFERENT. In a world of high production Super Bowl commercials, his was the opposite. For that reason it stood out.

Any publicity is good publicity

One of my mastermind members, and Commercial Real Estate wizard Chad Shipley, said “Many times, bad publicity is better than good. It gets people talking, just like we are now.” Do things that get people talking. Sometimes a little controversy is good (as long as it’s ethical).

Realness Resonates

The average person sees around 10,000 ads per day. In the digital age we are saturated with content. Authenticity stands out and resonates with consumers. The truth is consumers know you are selling them, so why not be REAL while doing it. Be quirky. Be funny. DON’T be perfect. Be you!

Be Clear on Call to Action

Kanye’s minimalist commercial had a CLEAR call to action - visit his website. With almost a 7% conversion rate, consumers knew the CTA. My take away is stop being cute and creative with marketing. Start making your call to action the highlight of your message. Keep it simple stupid.

TAKEAWAY:
🎶 No one spot should have all this power
The clock’s ticking, just count the hours
Cute messagin, makin consumers sour 🎶

Ok I tried. I really did. But I am not Ye….

âś…Be different. If your competition is going left - then go right.
✅Be real. Make your personal brand YOU. Don’t be like everyone else.
âś…Make your CTA the message - not a bunch of cute marketing BS.

Apple Shortcuts

Here’s the stuff this week that I am pumped about.

đź“š The Future is Faster Than You Think: by Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler is a visionary book that explores the accelerating pace of technology and its potential impact on humanity. It offers insights on how to thrive in the face of rapid change and disruption.

🎙️ 𝕏 Spaces: Like a webinar but audio only. Think live podcast. I LOVE Spaces and listen to them in the background while I work or workout. Real raw conversations from influencers you follow.

📱Apple Shortcuts: A shortcut is a quick way to get one or more tasks done with your apps. The Shortcuts app lets you create your own shortcuts with multiple steps. For example, build a “Surf Time” shortcut that grabs the surf report, gives an ETA to the beach, and launches your surf music playlist.

Well that’s a wrap!
