Let’s dive in to learn how Elon Musk solves problems with 5 simple steps.

More on that below!

Election Update
…Joe Exotic has Suspended his race

Sorry to break this UNEXPECTED NEWS but Joe Exotic has dropped out of the race.

I know…I know…many of us had high hopes for the Tiger King in the White House.

But it just didn’t work out.

😉hahaha

Problem Solving
…5-Step Problem Solving Framework

He’s rich
He’s a little out there (literally)
But he’s got a great problem solving method…

Musk's process begins with the premise that initial requirements might be flawed.

Here’s how Elon solves problems:

1. Challenge the Necessity

One common mistake, especially among skilled engineers, is striving for perfection in something that may not need to exist. Always question the fundamental necessity before investing time in improvements.

2. Eliminate Unnecessary Steps

Adopt a rigorous approach to cutting out steps, parts, or processes. If you’re not occasionally needing to reinstate about 10% of what you’ve removed, you might be too cautious. This ensures a push beyond comfort zones to achieve true efficiency.

3. Refine What’s Left

After elimination, focus on optimizing and simplifying the remaining components. Seek solutions that address multiple issues simultaneously. For example, SpaceX's reusable rockets address both cost and environmental impacts, exemplifying how small changes can yield significant benefits.

4. Accelerate the Process

Treat speed as a critical feature. Ask yourself: How would we adapt if we needed to complete this task in half the time? Rapid iteration is a hallmark of Musk’s companies and drives innovation and improvement.

5. Automate Thoughtfully

The sequence of these steps is vital. Automating a process before determining its necessity or optimizing it can lead to wasted efforts. This five-step method arose from lessons learned to ensure that automation comes at the right stage.

BOOM - now you are problem solving like Elon!

That’s a wrap
…see ya next week

Have a great rest of the week 🙂
